ITS A TONY WILLIAMS CHRISTMAS @ MY HOUSE!
these two MP3s are pretty hip. prelude-mystic is a live cut from 1971 with a rediculous solo intro . . . man those are some singles folks. this is nice because its b4 the percussionists were added leaving tony very audibly prominant.
Happy tears is a cut from an UNRELEASED tony album. yes that is holdsworth on guitar and "tequila" on the vocals. the album was recorded between bums rush and believe it! and that is just what it sounds like. new tony fans may dismiss this tune as trite- and the whole album (coming soon) as kind of wimpy dreck. its very commercial and not really ferocious. HOWEVER, if you compare it to albums by artists like joni mitchell or sting for that matter, the album shines as a peice of sophisticated "pop" music with a jazz soul that transcends being pigoened as eithr one. it aint perfect, but it was actaully a very forward leaning album for 1974. it was shelved because the jazz side of polydor didnt know how to handle this album. That is tragic because tony fans dont get to hear what is IMHO one of the best studio captures of the sound of his drums! they sound soooooooo tony on this. Its very live and has great separation (a proper final mastering would have likely tamed it just a bit, though). On some other of tonys pop outings his drum sound is can be mushy and almost generic. LOVE THOSE BLACK DOT HEADS!
The vids will come down over the week and be replaced by some more tony MP3s
